Dr. Glenn H. Shepard Jr.

Glenn H. Shepard Jr., PhD is an ethnobotanist, medical anthropologist and film maker whose work focuses on the indigenous peoples of the Amazon. Glenn has been consulting with our programming since 2003.  He speaks eleven languages and has done fieldwork with diverse native groups in Latin America, Asia and the Middle East researching shamanism, medicinal plants, and traditional environmental knowledge.  He has published more than fifty scientific articles about his work.  His ethnographic photography has won several prizes, and he has made and appeared in a number of films, including the Emmy-Award-winning Discovery Channel documentary, “Spirits of the Rainforest.”  He is a researcher in Indigenous Ethnology at the Museu Paraense Emilio Goeldi in Belém, Brazil, and blogs at “Notes from the Ethnoground”:
